ames Dean A.S.L.A. is unique in their project experience. For more than 37 years of practice, from offices in Thousand Oaks, California, the firm has accomplished many award winning designs for civic centers, public parks, commercial entertainment centers, hotels, public and private schools as well as many high-end private residential estates.

James Dean has a special interest in design of intimate spaces with emphasis upon developing a sense of space. His knowledge of landscape architecture has developed through his on-site involvement during construction of his design work.

Participation in the field has brought him into a more clear understanding of the knowledge and work performed by other design professions. In his years of practice he has been a design team member with Architects, Engineers, Geotechnical Consultants and Interior Designers. Not to be discounted, is his experience with Contractors with differing specialties.

James Dean has a special knowledge in site planning with an emphasis on grading and drainage. This skill was developed during the late 1980's as a principal / Owner of a small firm that offered civil engineering along with landscape architectural services.

James Dean has traveled extensively throughout Europe for the purpose of study. He is notable in the field for his integration of fountain and water feature designs into his projects. During his travel he has recorded several hundred fountains in their settings throughout Europe.

The firm has six professionals. All design work is performed on computers utilizing AutoCAD 14, AutoCAD 2002, AutoCAD 2004, and a most recent upgrade to AutoCAD Architectural Desktop 2006. James Dean also enjoys a position as instructor at the School of Extended Learning at California State University at Northridge. James Dean has taught Introduction to Landscape Design and Landscape Materials since 1997.
